Meeting is tomorrow
Dear Fellow Concerned Neighbors,
We wanted to make you aware of this urgent action alert for tomorrow, shared by Concerned Neighbor Lucy Han:
URGENT ACTION ALERT
Hello friends,
As you may have heard, LA County Supervisor (and LAHSA Commission Chair) Lindsey Horvath has agendized a report in the LAHSA Commission meeting this Friday (click for agenda) that attempts to misrepresent Los Angeles City’s 41.18 anti-camping ordinance as ineffective.
While LAHSA or the County Board of Supervisors can’t directly change City ordinances, their continued attacks on this important public safety tool point to an attempt to push for its repeal. We cannot allow this to happen and I encourage you to participate in the LAHSA Commission meeting this Friday morning to share your experience with 41.18.
If you would like to join virtually, you can register for their Zoom by going to (or clicking) the following URL and selecting the March 22nd meeting: https://lahsa-org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_kMGzNv0oRj6IG-H-FeeA3g#/registration
If you would like to go in person, the meeting will be held at: LAHSA Headquarters, 637 Wilshire Blvd, 1st Floor Commission Room, Los Angeles, CA 90017. Please find some suggested talking points below.
Please note that the report is agenda item number 13. Thank you for your interest in keeping Los Angeles safe and accessible!
Talking Points on 41.18:
Speak to your personal experience with the effects of 41.18 on your neighborhood
What was your community like before the 41.18 designation and how has it changed since?
How has 41.18 kept the area clear of major encampments?
41.18 isn't a homelessness ordinance, it's a public access and safety ordinance
trying to measure its efficacy based on housing outcomes doesn't measure the real impact the ordinance has on our community
We must have compassion for everyone this effects: including our children trying to go to school or access their local park
And there is nothing compassionate about leaving vulnerable people languishing in the streets
Please sign this petition and attend
tomorrow’s meeting if possible
Please take a minute right now to forward this email
to 3 neighbors or local friends.
